Murramarang National Park just north of the small town of Batemans Bay in New South Wales is a magnificent coastal park that stretches for 45 km and full of amazing environments. The park includes some of the most unique beaches, sandstone features, rock pools and achievable cycling.

Cycle the park with us on a guided bike tour, the ride includes vehicle support to carry cold drinks, lunch, swimmers and is perfect for non cyclists or cyclists can choose to hop on hop off when it suits them. The cycling options are varied and can be suited to your ability levels, some may choose challenging single tracks and others may be more comfortable on park roads as you slip through amazing spotted gum forest!

Explore sandstone passages on the beaches.
Start your gentle ride to the first great views, Emily Miller beach, and walk between amazing Sandstone cliffs carved and coloured by ocean spray. The weathered shelf shows fabulous colours of pink and yellow and forms the last southern tip of the Sydney Sandstone Basin. The cycling continues through the forest where if you’re lucky you can see the rare Glossy Black Cockatoo, Lace Monitors and a range of brightly coloured parrots flying between trees. The gently undulating ride does have the opportunity to visit many of the unique beaches, each slightly different and perfectly secluded.

12 noon

Rock Pools for a swim!
Arrive at North Head, the southernmost tip of the park, here you will see amazing views to the ocean from the cliff section of the ride. We take a well-earned rest from the bike and stroll out to the rock platform to discover one of the best rock pools in the region.
Many people choose to take a swim; your swimmers and towel can travel in the van for the journey. Lunch is enjoyed after we cool off and cyclists have the choice to travel back to the start location on the bike or take a well-earned rest in the van!

Why you’ll love this tour

Get back to nature without the hassle of organising it all and maintaining camping equipment. You’ll get to visit places outside the tourist trail that are harder to find. If you’re travelling alone, you’ll be in safe company with an experienced Guide and other like-minded travellers.

Choose from any of the activities below, choose just one or combine them, and we will tailor make your camping experience for you.
What you can choose to do

• Climb Pigeon House Mountain
• Ancient Rainforest bushwalks
• Bush Waterhole swimming
• Beach Rock Pool swimming
• Wildlife watching
• Aboriginal Cultural Experiences
• Bush to Beach Cycle Tour
• Or just sit around and BE YOURSELF

Note: Unfortunately due to permits and safety requirements smoking and drinking alcohol are not permitted in our pristine forests and on our tours.

In 1770 Captain Cook thought the peak looked like a Pigeon House as he clearly saw it from the ocean. The eternal Aboriginal name for the mountain is Didthol, meaning Big Breast. From this we can clearly see who had more imagination! Anyway, enough of the history lesson, this is a sweat your shorts off hike and not for the faint hearted.

The Pigeon House mountain hike is an extremely rewarding experience. The views from the summit to the west into magical wilderness regions of the Buddawangs show sandstone cliffs, gorges and escarpments. Views to the east show the amazing NSW coastline stretching as far as the eye can see. National Parks and Wildlife service grade this track at Grade 4, its rough, steep and a challenging hike. We do not recommend anyone with knee, ankle, heart or lung conditions to attempt this mountain hike.

Your Itinerary
9:30 am

Group meeting point in Batemans Bay or Ulladulla.

Travelling in comfortable air conditioned transport you will reach the Morton National Park, catch glimpses of the southern end of the Sydney Sandstone Basin through spotted gum forest and learn about the uses of the area. After around an hour drive the dominant Pigeon House Mountain awaits at the hike start location.

While the mountain hike is considered to be an easy 3 hour return hike, the first section straight out of the carpark is quite steep and walkers should be prepared for a tough first ascent. The first of the rest stops atop a granite outcrop gives great views to the south and is a welcome chance to rest, drink and admire the views while your guides chat about the geology.

While the trail continues on a relatively flat plateau through tea tree and xanthoria, pockets of dry and uniquely wet temperate forest pass you on both sides for the next half hour. Finally the mountain gently rises prior to the first of a series of steel ladders and platforms constructed by National Parks and Wildlife Service. The safe steel structures guide you to the summit where expansive views into the Buddawang Wilderness and the ocean await.

Spend as much time as you like on the summit and make your way down the trail, on your return journey lunch is prepared midway with incredible views to help you savour the experience!

Upon returning to the car park your guides will take you to the best spots to take a dip or soak your feet to celebrate your hike, either a local beach or the freshwater of the pristine upper Clyde River. It is here that we encourage a natural foot soak, a cold drink and some afternoon snacks.
3 to 4pm

Return to Batemans Bay or Ulladulla

It’s a rewarding 3-4 hour return walk to the top of Pigeon House Mountain and back. Your cottage is the closest accommodation option to the start of the walk. As the area is surrounded by 5 National and State Parks, there are plenty of other bush walks in the local area to enjoy. A comprehension guide to these walks can be found in the cottage for your convenience. If you would like a guided tour hike up Pigeon Mountain for your group, please let us know and we can arrange this for you as an extra activity.
Meals for the Weekend

We do not cater for dinner at the cottage. It’s only a 5 minute drive to the Milton Township and we encourage you to experience the local seasonal produce. Your hosts will assist you to book the best restaurant for your needs. Milton is a beautiful, charming heritage town with a friendly ‘small town’ atmosphere. The town is surrounded by rolling green hills containing many of the local dairy farms.

The heritage aspect of the town is evident by the numbers of buildings from a bygone era still in use.

There are a variety of outstanding restaurants and cafes serving delicious meals from vegetarian and gourmet take-away convenience to traditional pub fare or a la carte dining. If you would prefer to stay at your cottage the entire weekend please inquire with us about having your weekend catered for to your door. We can arrange this for you at an extra cost.
